Private Lessons

About Me

I have been teaching piano and guitar for 3 years in the Seattle area both privately and at local music schools. I hold a Bachelor's of Music from Cornish College of the Arts, where I studied primarily with Dr. Peter Mack (piano), Dr. Kaley Eaton (piano/composition), and Ha-Yang Kim (cello/composition). While I studied classical music in college, I am experienced in teaching and playing pop, rock, blues, improvising, and more.

I have performed as a cellist, pianist, and guitarist with acts such as The Friendship Quilet and Julian Finch. I have also recorded extensively for composers and songwriters Stefan Tabit, Marina DeMarco, and others. My college experience included playing classical chamber music by Beethoven, Debussy, Frederich Rzewski, and more.

Diversity and Representation

As a non-binary, transgender individual, I am committed to making my studio a safe space for all. I strive to teach in a way that gives my students representation, and actively challenge the Western classical music canon by teaching works from BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and Woman composers.

Teaching Philosophy

I focus on developing students' freedom of expression within music. Their interests guide our lessons and with my wide array of experience, nothing is off the table. I seek to foster the potential in every student, and hold them to a high standard as we work towards their goals and visions of success. My studio is a safe space for students to experiment as we learn to create music together.

I prioritize teaching my students pieces that are musically rich and expressive. I encourage my students to "paint a picture" with their playing by teaching pieces that have an image, emotion, or idea associated with the title. Though my practice is classically informed, I emphasize the multiple ways we learn music like playing by ear, using videos, and more.
